Glossary
Simple average tariff: The unweighted average of the ad valorem or ad valorem equivalents (AVEs) of MFN applied or preferential tariffs, based on pre-aggregated HS six-digit averages.
Affected trade value: Import values in US dollars that are affected by tariff actions. Imports at the national tariff line which are subject to tariff actions are aggregated by selected economies and MTN product category.
Affected trade share (%): The aggregated share of import value covered by additional tariff actions, over time.
Affected tariff line share (%): The share of national tariff lines covered by additional tariff actions, over time.
Tariff events: Starting with the baseline tariff of 01/01/2025 which is the MFN or best preferential unweighted tariff average, followed by events over time that announce "tariff actions" by economy, including the original source.

The "affected trade value" is an estimate, applying current tariff actions to latest available import data, which are often the previous year. Furthermore, affected trade may be slightly overstated due to data granularity limitations: When tariff changes at the 8-digit HS level are matched with import data available at the 6-digit HS level, a single 6-digit code may include multiple 8-digit tariff lines, with only some of those lines subject to the tariff action. Please note that these discrepancies are temporary and will be resolved once import data at the 8-digit HS level is reported to the WTO’s Integrated Database.

Tariff events
United States of America
The tariff events listed provide a comprehensive record of changes to effectively applied tariff duties that have been, or are currently, in force. Starting with baseline tariff rates as of January 1, 2025—representing the MFN or best preferential unweighted tariff averages unless otherwise stated—the dataset tracks tariff events over time by economy, including the original source of each action. These events reflect tariff adjustments that may increase, decrease, or replace existing tariff levels.
Initially focused on the policies of major trading countries and covering all trading partners, the dataset is continuously updated. It consolidates information from a variety of sources, including WTO notifications, the WTO Trade Monitoring Database, official government websites, and external media, developed in collaboration with the IMF.
The WTO-IMF Tariff Tracker makes this data available to promote transparency and support analysis, without implying endorsement by either organization.
