- As a result of the substantial inflation rate experienced by South Africa during the period under review, together with the marked reduction in the value of the South African rand over the same period and the widely fluctuating crop harvests as a result of the weather, the AMS has been calculated in real terms, in US dollar terms and in percentage terms. In all three cases the reduction from the base period to 1991 has been significant and well beyond the 20% reduction discipline. South Africa has also unilaterally undergone significant changes in agricultural policy in the spirit of the Uruguay Round as listed in table 6 bis. South Africa agrees to reduce its AMS by the agreed 20% over 6 years with the understanding that the factors indicated above are taken into consideration.
